Upcoming Calendar
February 12, 2010
*REMINDER: There will be no school on Monday Feb. 15th in observance of President's Day.
Dear Parents:
I would like to thank all of you who attended our “Onward and Upward to the Future” celebration. What a great event for our school community to honor the accomplishments of our students and teachers! As we enter the second semester, we recognize what a great job has been done thus far and yet there is much work left to do. I’m confident that we will continue to see our students achieve and “go boldly” into the future.
Beginning on February 18th, we will begin the annual CSAP testing. These assessments are required for all students in Colorado in 3rd – 10th grade. Students will be assessed in Reading, Language Usage and Math. Students in grades 5 and 8 will also be assessed in science. These tests provide a comprehensive picture of how well students are doing in meeting the Colorado state standards. Additionally, the data that we gather is critical for teachers to use in diagnostically evaluating individual student achievement and to assess the effectiveness of their instruction. It also provides us with the opportunity to see how well our school does when compared to other schools, and we are doing extremely well! Stone Creek ranks in the top 8% of the schools in the state of Colorado for students scoring advanced and proficient on the CSAP.
In preparation for the CSAP, we would like to ask the following of parents: · It is very important that students get a good night’s rest each night. · A nutritious breakfast is a critical factor for students taking the CSAP. · Pack an extra snack and make sure that they bring a bottle of water. · We will provide a quiet and comfortable school environment to ensure that they have the necessary materials for each test battery. · Please have your student to school on time. Students arriving late will not be permitted to begin the test and will be required to take a makeup exam. With your help and cooperation, we will continue to see our students reaching their potential and being successful with the CSAP.
As a faculty, we are well into the process of planning for next year. With the approval of next year’s school calendar by the Board of Directors at this month’s meeting, we have begun an in depth review of all curricular programs. We will be evaluating resource and training needs and developing the daily school schedule. I will also be working with the BOD to develop the annual budget. Although this will be an intensive process that will be completed in the next few months, we will be well prepared to have a very successful 2010-11 school year.
In closing, I would like to let you know that I have accepted the Board of Directors offer to return to SCCS next year as Headmaster. I have had a wonderful time serving our students, and I’m greatly impressed with our school community. The possibilities are endless and thank you for your support and commitment. The future promises to be great.
