5th Grade

Kathleen Mumaw

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with a double minor in science and psychology from Ohio University.
  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Adams State College.

Experience:
I have been teaching for fourteen years. I have taught every grade except fourth grade from kindergarten through eighth grade. I have enjoyed being able to see how the curriculum unfolds from one grade level to the next.

Strengths:
One of my greatest strengths is my rapport with students. Having an excellent rapport paves the way for an exciting, challenging, respectful and caring classroom environment. Differentiating to meet student’s needs comes naturally to me when planning lessons.

Personal:
I have lived in the valley for six years and have made Leadville my home for the last four years. My husband Chris and I have two children. My son Kacy is four and my daughter Maya is two.  We also have two dogs, a Border Collie named Rio, and an Australian Sheppard named Blues. We love to spend time outside. Our latest endeavor has been gardening, which is pretty difficult at 10,000 feet! So far we have been eating lots of lettuce and radishes.

Passions / Interests:
I enjoy spending time with friends and family. My family and I like to camp, hike, and listen to music.  Right now my husband and I are learning to read music and play guitar. I also make jewelry, collect rocks and crystals, sew and make dolls and toys for my children. We do not have television so we spend quite a bit of time reading. I love to bake, and I bake all of our bread.

Vision for SCCS:
To ensure that all students are able to reach their full potential by educating their head, hands, and heart.
